RSF Drone Strike Kills Eight Civilians Including Five Children

(MENAFN) Eight civilians, including five children, were killed and 11 others injured Tuesday when a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted a health center in Kadugli, South Kordofan, according to the Sudan Doctors Network.

The group said three women were also among the victims in the attack, which hit Al-Shartai Health Center in the Hajar Al-Nour neighborhood of Kadugli. Significant damage was reported at the facility. Another drone strike struck the Kalba neighborhood of the city, though it caused no casualties.

The network condemned the attacks on medical facilities and personnel, stating they “constitute a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and all conventions that guarantee the protection of civilians and medical establishments.” The RSF did not issue a comment regarding the strikes.

Earlier Tuesday, Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced that army forces had broken the RSF siege on Kadugli and entered the city. The RSF, alongside their ally the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), had maintained the siege since the early months of the conflict, which began on April 15, 2023.

Currently, the RSF controls most of western Darfur, except for parts of North Darfur still held by the army, while government forces retain control over most other states, including the capital, Khartoum. The ongoing conflict has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions across Sudan.
